As a person with celiac disease I always appreciate knowing the yummy and safe places to go for gluten free eating. I recently went to Portland Oregon and today am sharing with you the places we went to eat, and what we thought!
McMenamins Kennedy School – I will always recommend McMenamins even just for the gluten free tater tots and fries. If you have a serious allergy like me you will appreciate the gluten free friers. As for the entrees, they have a wide selection of burgers which are great, but I would recommend getting them without the buns because they aren’t worth the extra charge.
Bijou Cafe – We went to Bijou cafe for brunch one morning. It was definitely very cute and had lots of character however I don’t know that I would necessarily recommend it for gluten free eaters. Our server was very knowledgeable about what the gluten free options were, however as they didn’t have any gluten free bread substitutes and many dishes include bread of some sort there were very limited options for what we could have.
Back to Eden Bakery – This is by far one of my favourite bakeries I have ever been to. It is 100% gluten free and vegan and absolutely delicious. I would HIGHLY recommend stoping by if you’re in the Portland area.
Mee-Sen Thai – As for gluten free options this restaurant came as somewhat of a disappointment. Our server wasn’t completely knowledgeable about gluten free items and eventually we were told that all we could have was the pad thai. Though this was good it was disappointing to only have one option.
Be sure to let me know what your favourite gluten free restaurants are in the area and I’ll be sure to check them out next time!
