a single girls guide to valentine’s day

Hi friends! I hope February has been treating you well so far. February is always such a strange month in my opinion because it feels like it goes by so speedy, and the weather is so unpredictable. Lately, we’ve had a few days that feel like spring and it’s snowed. The most notable part of February though in my opinion is Valentine’s Day.

As someone who will be spending their 22nd Valentine’s day in a row, single, I have a lot of thoughts on how to still make it a fun day. I personally have always loved Valentine’s day and try to avoid dwelling on all the people around me doing couple-y things.

First things first, lean into it, sister! Buy yourself the flowers, decorate with all the pink and red things, and make it fun rather than something you dread every time you walk into the grocery store.

Next, plan the girls nights. Last night a few friends and I did a rom-com night complete with pink drinks and cake baking & it was so much fun! There are so many cute twists you could put on this. You could do it potluck style and have everyone bring a treat, I also love the idea of having everyone bring a different drink for us to all try throughout the night. I think next year it would be really fun to do a glam galentines day and have everyone get dressed up. I have other girls nights planned for the week and I’m so excited to make it fun. Frankly, Valentine’s Day just offers such cute decor and outfit options I soak it all up.

If you decide to go the rom-com girls night vibe here are a few of my favourite movie options:

  • Valentine’s Day – I feel like this is a given
  • Love Actually – it might be Christmassy but considering that it is a romantic comedy and my favourite movie of all time I couldn’t not mention it.
  • The Proposal
  • 10 Things I Hate About You
  • How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
  • Friends With Benefits
  • The F Word
  • Love Rosie
  • Legally Blonde
  • Pretty Woman

Last night we watched Your Place or Mine, but I personally didn’t love it.

On Valentine’s Day itself I really like to take care of myself. This year I’ve booked a workout class with a friend & plan on picking up some takeout on my way home and maybe end off the night with a romantic comedy. This year I’m really going to reflect on love, what I’m looking for, and what I value about the people I love.

This Valentine’s Day I’m sure will be very similar to others, however, I’m really focusing on being intentional about it. If you have any traditions, I would love to hear about them (or any favourite romantic comedies)!
