Recently I spent a night in Chemainus and wanted to share with you what there is to see and do while you are there! It is a lovely spot to check out if you’re on the island, particularly if you want to make a stop while heading north.
Where We Stayed: Best Western Plus Chemainus Inn – this was a lovely place to stay! The bedrooms were massive, and came with a separate sleeping area complete with two TV’s and a mini kitchen. The hotel itself had a pool, hot tub & fitness center, none of which I used on this visit but definitley plan to in the future. Then the complementary breakfast. WOW! Usually at a buffet style hotel breakfast like this I can expect to not find much in the way of gluten free, however they went above and beyond complete with gluten free toast (in a dedicated GF toaster) upon request.

Not only was this the cutest restauraunt inside & out, it was absolutely delicious as well.
Unfortunatley there weren’t a large number of items that were gluten free, but I did appreciate how attentive and aware the staff were about allergens.
I ordered the fish and not only was it even better than I could’ve imagined it fulfilled all my fall dreams. Will definitley be trying to recreate this meal in the coming months!
The following morning we had breakfast at the hotel as previously mentioned and then for a mid-day snack we stopped by Utopia Bakery which has a wide selection of GF options!
Activities:
The main purpose of this trip to Chemainus was to go to the Chemainus theater which was putting on an absolutely fantastic Mama Mia play.
Although I personally have never been to another play here I have heard nothing but amazing reviews and would definitely recommend looking into it if you’re ever in the area.
In addition to seeing the play, Chemainus is a wonderful place to walk around. You are right on the water and there is the cutest little town, complete with absolutely breathtaking gardens and flowerbeds everywhere. We went into a number of shops including the candy store, thrift shops, the general store & the soap store. Whether you want some exercise or to window shop this is the place for you!
